Weights and Measures

without our knowledge

or requested compliance,

we are, all of us being

weighed in the balance,

~

the dust, to which we

will surely be returned

may be either fertilized

or sterilized by this

measurement of worth,

~

the religious may extol

good versus evil, the

atheist would say it’s

either luck or loss,

~

purgatory is a place

of dreams, half-asleep,

half-awake where

deeds are measured

fair or foul

just or jinxed,

~

transfixed and

powerless to re-write wrongs,

we are held in a spectator’s

torment, forced to crawl

through the clawing fingers

of the past, one eye

on our daemons

the other on the scales,

~

think carefully

as you move amongst

your fellow men, think

scales, balance and dust
