Waiting for the water-heater-repair guy,
what a luxury
to have a tank that produces
hot water on demand,
don’t have to build a fire
to heat up a cauldron of water.
Waiting for the car repair to be finished,
what a luxury
to have this horizontal metal box
with four wheels and an engine,
don’t have to walk miles every day to gather food and supplies.
These modern things break down,
these modern times are complex,
what a luxury,
even as we yearn for simplicity,
it’s okay to laugh when things break,
sometimes people break too,
then we are especially called to love.
