National Children’s Book Week is typically celebrated during the first full week of May each year in the United States. It’s a week-long celebration aimed at encouraging children to develop a love for reading. This year, National Children’s Book Week begins today, May 6th.
Started in 1919, National Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. The event is organized by the Children’s Book Council (CBC) and the Every Child a Reader (ECAR) foundation. During this week, various events are held across the country, including author and illustrator appearances at schools, libraries, bookstores, and community centers.
