11.04.24 – 82:51) Leanne’s on reception goodbye said before I head

West once more on the second leg of this year’s tour

Tell her how grateful I feel about her gettin’ me a good deal

An’ as usual it’s dark as I leave the car park

The car an’ me headin’ North on 183

I’m thinkin’ about last night Takin’ Jojo for a meal; seemed just right

Fish restaurant chosen she looked with dread

Sayin’ with a sigh “the prices could be too high

let’s get 2 fillet-o-fish meals from MacDonald’s instead”

It turned out she was the smarter

The two meals from MacDonald’s cost the same as a fish restaurant starter

Another good thing came to me later

With a to go meal you don’t have to tip the waiter

83:52) Lone Harley rider, ridin’ across Texas you’ll find him

Me in my rental car, following behind him

Stickin’ to the limit we seen, keepin’ a safe distance between

No need for brakin’ or overtakin’

An’ I had a thought, “I got me a motorcycle escort”

So let the morning’ come alive, enjoy the drive

We part at San Angelo and a thought to him I send

“Ride safely buddy an’ get to journeys end”.

84:53) Drivin’ went well, till Midland then roadworks hell

Soon I learn nowhere to turn

Completely of track, head west then come back

Found the motel; only to frown as I was told it was shut down

To do it up the intent of the new management

Would have been nice to know had they told me so

So a matter of drivin’ round till accommodation found

Feelin’ really sore it’s gonna cost a lot more

Last one found a decent rate,

But pushed up by taxes, occupancy, city an’ state

Thinkin’ beggars can’t be choosers even if they are life’s losers

So when the booking agency asks me to tell

Them about my stay I’ll give ‘em hell

Slippin’ in a swearword or two I may do

Experience not quite in vain, tell ‘em I’m not gonna use ‘em again

May not be much of a cost

But a principle of bad service an’ another customer lost

85:54) Rang my friends let ‘em know I’m back in town

Find out how things were goin’ down

Brought my poems up to date

Then an evenin’ meal don’t want to be late

Cos’ later on I’ll be prancin’

When my new friend Bonnie takes me country dancing’

86:55) Six forty-five an’ away we drive

Down the road we run for an evenin’ of fun

Thought of it makes me smile I ain’t danced in a while

An’; there’s my poems to take, gonna read two of’’em in the break

I’m introduced met with a smile then we chat a while

Then the band starts playin the music starts swayin

I watch an’ learn, ten it’s my turn

Take the floor one tentative dance then more

I’m thinkin’ “hot dang, now I’m getting’ the hang

Getting’ the rhythm, e ladies I’m dancing with ‘em

Had a ball, good time had by all

An’ what was really neat, I never stood on anyone’s feet
