She was big and strong, raucous and loud
She was wild and free, careless and irresponsible
Life was a whimsy
Then the world told her to grow up.
She shrank and changed right before their eyes
Learned the art of discipline and the subtleties of a lady
She became quieter and more contained
They beamed their approval at her improvement
The more they smiled the harder I would try
To be what they wanted me to be
Life became routine and I was safe
I knew what each day held and I knew my place
I looked in the mirror every day
I was tiny and pretty my hair shone like gold
But After a time my eyes lost their shine
I stopped laughing
I stopped crying
I stopped acting out
I made them so proud
While all along I carried the burden of being precious me
That I had no time to stop…
Exhausted I left, just an empty shell. I see things clearly now, I was living in hell.
