Customers of bad contractors eligible for compensation – 12news.com KPNX

Most complaints of shoddy residential construction work are settled by regulators who intervene and order corrective action from the company involved. However, customers who are able to prove a company’s license should be suspended or revoked have an option for financial compensation as well.
Arizona’s recovery fund is designated to reimburse customers for shoddy or unfinished work. It has roughly $6.9 million on hand, according to Tyler Palmer, a spokesperson for the Arizona Registrar of Contractors.
The fund is a form of financial protection provided by licensed Arizona residential contractors.
It is available to those who own and occupy “class three” residential property. In some circumstances, the fund is also available to lessees of residential real estate.

In order for residents to be eligible for the recovery fund, they must submit documentation that meets several requirements.
For example, the contractor involved must be licensed with the ROC. The resident must also prove that the contractor’s license was suspended or revoked as a direct result of a formal complaint made by the resident.
