We have some disturbing news to report out of Houston, Texas, where an associate at an Am Law 100 firm was shot and killed after acting as a good Samaritan at a local McDonald’s.

Lewis Brisbois associate Jeffrey Limmer was fatally shot shortly after he attempted to de-escalate a dispute at the fast-food restaurant. Local ABC affiliate KTKR has additional details:

According to detectives, a customer was angry with employees over his order and demanded a refund. The victim, 46-year-old Jeffrey Limmer, tried to calm down the customer and the customer then focused his attention on Limmer.

The fight went outside, and Limmer pushed the customer to the ground, according to detectives. The customer then went to his car to pull out a gun and allegedly shot Limmer before he fled the scene in an early 2000s blue Ford pickup truck.

Limmer’s sister, Jennifer Thomas, said she wasn’t surprised that her brother tried to help in the tense situation. “He’s always wanted to fight for the little guy,” she said. She went on to call her late brother “a good Samaritan who [was] trying to do the right thing.”

The man who shot Limmer is still at large. Anyone with information is on Limmer’s assailant is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

We here at Above the Law would like to extend our condolences to Jeffrey Limmer’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
