Local real estate firm to host diversity and inclusion conference featuring top Atlanta developer
A local commercial real estate agency is hosting a conference that will address diversity and inclusion in commercial real estate next month. Cassandra Chandler, CEO of The Chandler Group, is hosting The Door is Open 2022 which will feature access to top industry experts and introduce and explore resources and opportunities in commercial real estate.
T. Dallas Smith, founder and CEO of Atlanta-based T. Dallas Smith & Co., will be the keynote speaker for the event. The Black-owned real estate firm brokered Atlanta’s largest lease with Microsoft in 2020 and has completed more than $16 billion in real estate transactions to date.
The event will be held June 3 from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Boutwell auditorium.
Southside student apartments under new property management
An Ohio-headquartered real estate firm now manages an off-campus student apartment complex in Southside.
Coastal Ridge Real Estate, a multifamily real estate investment and management firm was recently awarded management of Ascend Five Points South, a 520-student bed apartment property with fully furnished units.
Located at 1001 20th St. S. near Hotel Indigo and three blocks away from UAB’s campus, the property was developed in 2021 by Opus Development Company. Ascend Five Points Birmingham is currently 92% occupied.
EBSCO company renews lease at Colonnade office building
Valent Group, a division of EBSCO Industries, has renewed its office lease at the Blue Lake Center just off Highway 280.
David Spencer and Andrew Patterson of Shannon Waltchack represented Valent Group in the lease renewal of the 10,485 square feet of office space at 3500 Blue Lake Drive. The landlord at the time of the lease was represented by David Fullington of CBRE.
The space was built out by Hallmark Builders Inc. and designed by KPS Group. 
Construction company circumvents pandemic pressures with alternative methods for UAB complex
Phase I of UABs new Science and Engineering Complex is halfway to completion.
The $76 million development is a three-part project to consolidate basic science undergraduate and graduate studies into one complex. The 138,842-square-foot facility is located on 14th Street South between University Boulevard and 10th Avenue South.
General contractor for the project is Hoar Construction. Additional project partners include Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood, Lord Aeck Sargent (LAS), MBA Engineers, Schoel Engineering, Newcomb & Boyd and Hyde Engineering. Construction of Phase 1 began in February 2021 and is expected to wrap up in spring 2023.
