Northrop Grumman beefs up Chandler office presence, hiring hundreds – Phoenix Business Journal

Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC) is nearly out of space at its new Chandler office and is looking to mitigate that problem by expanding down the street in the Price Road corridor.
The defense company will move more than 250 employees into a more than 50,000-square-foot space at 1700 S. Price Road as it expands its local office presence, said Scott Day, Northrop Grumman’s director of communications for launch and missile defense systems. The employees will start moving into the new office at the Allred Park Place in November, he said.
Northrop Grumman moved into its new office at 1575 S. Price Road in the second half of 2019 with the space to accommodate about 2,200 people at a given time, Day said.
A recent office market report by Avison Young lists Northrop Grumman at the top for leasing activity for the third quarter in Phoenix. In August, Northrop Grumman signed a sublease agreement to occupy more than 50,000 square feet at 1700 S. Price Road on a 97-month term, the report said. Avison Young’s Mark Seale marketed the entire third floor for sublease in a listing brochure.
Day said Northrop Grumman has close to 2,500 employees who work out of the Chandler facility and that the company is still looking to fill more than 300 open positions across Arizona, nearly 200 of which are for the Chandler operations. He said the growth is a product of Northrop Grumman winning “significant” contract awards.
Last month, a partnership between Northrop Grumman and Raytheon Technology’s Tucson-based Missiles & Defense division was awarded a nearly $1 billion contract to develop the Hypersonic Attack Cruise Missile (HACM) for the U.S. Air Force. The air-launched HACM will be the first of its kind, and the $985.34 million contract calls for the two companies to design, develop and deliver the missile by March 2027.
The two companies recently were awarded a contract modification on their project to develop a Glide Phase Interceptor that would be able to stop hypersonic weapons while in their glide phase, which is the middle portion of their flight en route to targets.
Northrop Grumman’s existing Chandler office and future office were developed by Douglas Allred Company, built by Willmeng Construction and designed by Balmer Architectural Group. Northrop Grumman officially opened its 633,000-square-foot Chandler campus in November 2019 to support national defense and aerospace projects.
In April, Northrop Grumman opened its new 120,000-square-foot facility in Gilbert, expanding its satellite manufacturing division. That new space is connected to the company’s existing 135,000-square-foot building that was built in 2004.
As of January 2022, Northrop Grumman was Arizona’s 26th largest defense contractor after 97 defense contracts in FY21. Its 4,475 employees across the state made Northrop Grumman Arizona’s 30th largest employer.
