No More Waiters Island? Dion Waiters Selling His $18M Florida Home – Realtor.com News

One of the largest homes ever built in posh Pinecrest, FL, is now on the market for $18 million.
The seller is former NBA guard Dion Waiters, who was the fourth overall pick in the 2012 NBA draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
A player who never met a shot he didn’t want to take, the prolific shooter spent eight seasons in the NBA and earned a rep as a player who could score buckets in bunches. He also earned the nickname “Waiters Island” from NBA pundits, who believed in his ability and admired his braggadocio.

Out of the league since winning a ring with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020, Waiters is now making moves again—this time, out of South Florida.
“He loves his hometown [of Philadelphia] and goes there a lot,” explains listing agent Ashley Michelle Velez, with P.U.R.E. Investments, Inc. “They’re not quite sure if they want to stay in Miami right now. They’re going back and forth between Philly and Miami.”

Built in 2016, the roughly 14,000-square-foot home sits on nearly two acres. And the former shooter has even adapted his nickname to fit his mansion.
Waiters “calls it Waiters Island, because it’s his own private getaway,” Velez says. “On that property, you don’t feel like anybody is around you. It’s a lot of land for somebody who wants to be private. It feels like it is his own resort, and he loves the house.”

Inside, the home features nine bedrooms and 11 full bathrooms. The new owner will have a choice of several luxurious main bedrooms.
“It has three primary suites, so it’s not just one [main] bedroom,” Velez says. “The closets are insane. The kitchen is gorgeous. I mean, it’s a stunning, stunning property. The primary bedroom is one of the coolest things in the house, and you don’t get that a lot.”
Another primary suite is on the lower level, and a third suite is on the opposite side of the house, on the second floor.
“That’s where they have their guests and their moms stay,” Velez explains. “It has another huge bathroom and great-sized closet.”

Waiters has been using one of the bedrooms as a home theater, but Velez says it could be easily converted back into a bedroom.
“The kids’ rooms are also amazing, and their closets are very large, too,” she notes.
For extended family, another two bedrooms and bathrooms come with a separate entrance near the huge kitchen area.
“The kitchen is just amazing,” Velez insists. “With all the islands, you have so much room. You walk in and are like, wow.”
A series of reflecting pools in front of the house give it a spectacular entry. And a swimming pool area in the back is flanked by plenty of seating, an outdoor kitchen, a teppanyaki grill, and barbecue. And there’s room for more.
“There are two areas of the yard where you could definitely add a tennis court or a full basketball court, which is something that a lot of people in Miami want to do—they just don’t have the land for it,” Velez observes.
So far, she says she has shown the home to a few football players, a basketball player, and assorted wealthy folk.
“I deal with a lot of athletes and entertainers, so I know that caliber of clientele,” Velez says. “I’ve sold homes for a lot more than this and homes for a lot less. When I first saw the house, I thought it was beautiful. It is a very large home, and it’s definitely breathtaking when you walk in.”
