National tool store plans to open third Wichita location

A California-based tool retailer with a national footprint is expanding into west Wichita.

Harbor Freight Tools said in a news release Tuesday that its third local store will be at 2414 N. Maize Road.

The 18,537 square-foot building in the NewMarket Square area most recently served as a Coleman retail location. Before that, Office Max had a store there.

Harbor Freight, which has current locations at 2487 S. Seneca and 6435 E. 34th St. North, said it expects to open this summer and that construction work has begun.

Rob Pestinger of Coldwell Banker Plaza Real Estate represented the owner on the lease for the space, while Anita Bates with Colliers repped Harbor Freight.

The company plans to hire 25-30 new employees for the store.

“We’ve been looking to open another location in Wichita for a number of years so that we can provide the tools and equipment at tremendous values to the community,” said Trey Feiler, senior vice president of real estate and construction for Harbor Freight Tools, in the release. “In addition to finding a great location, we were attracted by the availability of great associates in the Wichita area, and we look forward to having them join the Harbor Freight team.”

Founded in 1977, Harbor Freight — which aims to be a “go-to source for affordable tools” — has more than 1,400 stores nationwide.
