National Poetry Month Reading & Open Mic featuring Paisley Rekdal – April 20 @ 7pm ET

The International Women’s Writing Guild‘s spring programming for Poetry Palooza concludes with a National Poetry Month special event Thursday, April 20 at 7pm eastern! I’m excited to be hosting this event and to introduce one of my favorite poets Paisley Rekdal, followed by a Q&A and open mic. This is a free event, but please consider donating to IWWG or becoming member to support women writers around the globe.

Paisley Rekdal is the author of four books of nonfiction, and seven books of poetry, including Nightingale, Appropriate: A Provocation, and the forthcoming West: A Translation. Her work has received the Amy Lowell Poetry Traveling Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, an NEA Fellowship, Pushcart Prizes, a Fulbright Fellowship, and various state arts council awards. The former Utah poet laureate, she teaches at the University of Utah where she is a distinguished professor.

For more about Rekdal’s most recent book of poems, you can read my review of Nightingale by Paisley Rekdal published on 15 Bytes: Utah’s Art Magazine.

The Guild was founded in 1976. As a women’s writing guild, we are culturally diverse. From the beginning, we’ve represented women from many backgrounds. When the Guild was founded, we wanted to create a place where all women writers feel welcome, inspired, and empowered by skills, resources, and mentoring.

Now, after 45 years of enriching women writers’ lives, we are still growing and changing with the times. We have a strong membership, a quarterly publication, a yearly summer conference, and regional events,

We’ve been listening to women writers around the world. Many of us yearn for writing and publishing resources, friendship, self-expression, professional writing guidance, and development of craft. Many of us yearn for a community, but may not have the means or time to travel to a Guild event in person.

We refuse to let the voices of emboldened women writers go unheard. We have therefore expanded our online workshops and also offer free writes, Open Mics, writing circles and a Global Pen Pal program.

We’re ushering in a movement of mighty, soulful women writers. Together, we’re changing the way women writers’ stories get heard, crafted, and spread around the globe.
