Elford Development buys former Grandview-area Goodwill HQ for $11.3M

Elford Development has purchased the former Goodwill Columbus headquarters near Grandview Heights for $11.3 million.

An entity that shares an address with Elford bought the property in a deal that closed this week, according to the Franklin County Auditor’s website. Elford revealed plans to redevelop the site into a mixed-use project in September 2022.

The firm plans to build apartments and an Aldi at the corner of 5th Avenue and Edgehill Road. The site is about 5 acres.

Elford Development did not respond to a request for comment on the sale.

Goodwill Columbus had originally planned to replace its existing headquarters with a new building and retail store at the site, but decided to sell instead, citing rising construction costs. Elford’s construction arm had been selected to build the project when Goodwill had planned to be redevelop the site itself.

Goodwill Columbus now has offices in the Brewery District.

Elford is also working on another mixed-use development on West 5th Avenue. The firm is teaming up with White Castle to redevelop the fast food chain’s former district office building into 196 apartments and 7,000 square feet of retail and commercial space. There will also be a 326-space parking garage.

The mixed-use project at 915 W. 5th Ave. will open later this year.
